Union Bank of India was established in Bombay on 11 November 1919 for Banking and Financial services. This bank is a Government-owned bank of India which has more than 120 million customers. If we talk about the history of the bank, then the Ubi Bank was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi. At the time of India Independence in 1947, this bank had four branches, one in Saurashtra and three other branches in Mumbai.
In 1969, this bank had 240 branches and in 1975 this bank acquired Belgaum Bank Which was a private bank established in 1930. In 1964, Ubi Bank itself was merged with Shri Jadeya Shankarling Bank.

This bank acquired Miraj State Bank in 1985 which was established in 1929 and had 26 branches of it.
In 2007, the bank was expanded to Internationally with an office in Abu Dhabi, UAE and in Shanghai, China. Its branch was established in Hong Kong in 2008 and in 2009 the representative office was established in Sydney, Australia.
On 30 August 2019, Nirmala Sitharaman (Finance Minister) announced that Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank would be merged with Union Bank of India. This bank merger was approved on 4th March by the Union Cabinet and was completed on 1st April 2020.
