The Reserve Bank of India granted Universal License to Bandhan Bank on June 17, 2015. Then on August 23 of the same year, the bank started operations with 50 ATMs and 501 Branches. 47,260 employees of Bandhan Bank are working by 2020.

When Bandhan Bank was opened in 2001, it was not the highest profit and it used to provide micro loans then. After that focused on Financial Inclusion and Women Empowerment. In 2006 Bandhan Bank increased microfinance activity. In 2010, Bandhan made his mark as the Largest MFI in the Country. Bandhan Bank sought approval from the Reserve bank on 2 April 2014 for Universal Bank. On August 23, 2015, the Reserve Bank Provide Approval  to Bandhan Bank for Universal Banking License.

In 2010, Bandhan Bank became the largest MFI in the Country.  In 2015, Bandhan Bank got the license of Universal Bank from Reserve Bank of India.  In 2018, Bandhan Bank is 8th Most Valued on the basis of Market Capitalist.
